Author Tarun Raj Arora at the Forefront as Gautam Khattar Gets Bail; Goa Developments Draw Nationwide Attention

New Delhi : The bail granted to Gautam Khattar by a Vasco court on May 2 has marked a turning point in a case that, over the past week, has expanded well beyond Goa. What started as a law-and-order issue linked to alleged remarks at a public event has now drawn sustained attention from religious figures, social voices, and observers across the country.
Khattar, the founder of the Sanatan Mahasangh and a Sanatani preacher, was arrested on April 24 after a video from an April 18 event in Vasco triggered multiple complaints. Given the sensitivity of the matter, the probe was handed over to the Goa Crime Branch. At the time the bail order was passed, he was admitted to the North Goa District Hospital.
The court granted him conditional bail, requiring a ₹30,000 bond or two local sureties, along with standard conditions including travel restrictions and a direction to avoid repeating the alleged offence.
However, the legal outcome is only one part of the story. In the days leading up to the decision, Goa saw an unusual build-up of religious presence and coordinated support activity. Several saints and representatives from different organisations reached the state, holding discussions and closely tracking the developments.
Among the most visible figures during this period was author and entrepreneur Tarun Raj Arora, who has been in Goa for the past five days. Unlike a distant commentator, Arora remained physically present through key moments, engaging both at the ground level and with decision-makers.
People familiar with the developments say Arora communicated directly with the Goa Chief Minister, stressing the importance of ensuring Khattar’s safety during custody. He also highlighted the need for tight security arrangements outside the court, where crowds had begun to gather, and pushed for a structured and secure exit plan in case bail was granted.
Alongside him, religious leaders such as Yogi Shakti Brahmachari from the Himalayan region and Peethadheeshwar Ram Vishal Das Maharaj from Haridwar stayed stationed in Goa, maintaining an active presence throughout the developments. Their continued engagement reflected the seriousness with which sections of the sant community viewed the case.
At a broader level, figures like Devkinandan Thakur, Mahant Abhay Das, and Jagadguru Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati were also seen as playing a role in amplifying the issue and keeping pressure on the administration.
Support also came in from across the country, with several social and grassroots voices joining in. Names such as Bal Sant Abhinav Arora, Rubal Pataliya, Muskan Raghuvanshi, Vikas Rana, Anurag Arya, Nisha Vernekar, Veeraj Desai, and Rakesh Uttarakhandi were among those who publicly expressed their backing, reflecting a wider base of engagement beyond prominent figures.
Once the bail order came through, the atmosphere outside the court shifted quickly. Supporters gathered in large numbers, and slogans began echoing through the court premises. Witnesses described Tarun Raj Arora raising the call “Dekho dekho kaun aaya,” with the crowd responding in unison, “Sher aaya, sher aaya,” turning the moment into a visible show of support.
Soon after, Devkinandan Thakur and Mahant Abhay Das spoke with Khattar over a phone call facilitated through Tarun Raj Arora’s phone, offering their congratulations and continued support.
Reactions continued to pour in from various quarters, including Abhinav Arora, with many describing the development as more than just a routine legal relief and instead a moment of larger symbolic importance.
As proceedings move forward, the episode has already demonstrated how quickly a local case can evolve into a national talking point. With multiple stakeholders involved and public sentiment running high, the Gautam Khattar matter now sits at the intersection of law, belief, and public discourse—far beyond the confines of a courtroom.
