New Delhi : All commercial markets will remain close today (February 26) as announced by the traders to protest against the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and rising fuel prices, which have touched Rs 100 per litre mark in most parts of the nation.

The Indian traders' body Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) recently announced that all commercial markets will remain closed on February 26 to register their protest and demand review of GST regime.

It has also been informed that the CAIT members will be holding dharnas in around 1500 different locations across the nation, demanding the Centre, state governments and the GST Council to keep in abeyance the "draconian" provisions of GST.

CAIT Secretary-General Praveen Khandelwal also mentioned that they are talking to the government on the issue and All India Transporters Welfare Association (AITWA) has agreed to support their protest on February 26.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, he said, "All commercial markets across the country will remain closed and protest dharnas will be organised in different cities of all states," adding that along with CAIT, over 40,000 traders' associations across the country will support the Bandh.

The AITWA also seek abolishing the E-Way Bill and track vehicles by using Fast-Tag connectivity to E-Invoice and to scrap the penalty on transporters for any time-based compliance target of transit and make diesel prices uniform across the country.
