BIHAR BRIDGE DOWN: "A PLANNED DEMOLITION"

Bhagalpur : A 200-meter long stretch of an under-construction bridge over river Ganga in Bhagalpur was seen collapsing on Sunday, soon after which a lot of criticism was drawn towards the government of Bihar questioning their seriousness over the lives of people. This is the second time when a similar incident has happened involving the same bridge.

The Bihar government quickly came forward and cleared the air by claiming that the collapsed part was a deliberately pulled down due to flagged flaws in the structure.

The construction of the bridge had begun in 2014, it was expected to get completed by 2019. But, since then the deadline has been extended four times.

The bridge has been built by SP Singla Constructions Private Limited at a cost of Rs 1,710 crore.

Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav and Additional Chief Secretary of Road Construction Department, Pratyay Amrit, held a press conference on Sunday to clear the confusion that erupted after images and videos of the collapse were seen spreading on social media.
