Body of intelligence officer killed in Delhi clashes recovered from drain

New Delhi : The body of an intelligence officer has been recovered from the drain in Jafrabad, one of the main areas that has been witnessing violent clashes from past few days over the CAA.

More than 22 people have been killed in last three days and over 250 people have been injured in the violence related incidents.

Ankit Sharma, who worked as a Security Assistant with the IB, was returning home on Tuesday evening when he was allegedly attacked by a mob at the Chand Bagh bridge and beaten to death; his body was later thrown into a drain, according to officials.

Since Tuesday, he was missing and his family was trying to locate him.

After his body has been recovered, Ankit's father (Ravindra Sharma) has blamed the Aam Aadmi Party for allegedly attacking and killing him. Ankit was shot after he was beaten, Ravinder Sharma told police. The body has been sent for autopsy.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal reacted to the killing in a tweet this afternoon. "Such a tragic loss of life. The culprits must not be spared. 20 people have already lost their lives. So painful to watch people of Delhi suffering. Praying that we recover from this tragedy soon n work together to undo damage done to people n communities," he wrote.

The Delhi High Court also termed Ankit Sharma's death in the violence as unfortunate.
