Body of missing DU student found in Dwarka drain, accused arrested

New Delhi : A 21-year old student of Delhi University, who was reported missing since March 22, was found dead on Thursday. Police arrested the accused.

The body of the dead Ayush was found in a drain in Dwarka area.

Ayush, the victim was abducted on March 22 and his father was asked for a sum of Rs. 50 lakh against his release. The family, immediately, informed the police and a case was registered on Palam Village police station for investigation.

Report says that the abductor on March 26 had messaged victim’s father asking to deliver the money near Uttam Nagar area. Subsequently, 30 police teams in civilian clothing were deployed to nab the accused when he comes to collect the ransom. However, the kidnapper didn't come to collect the money.

Police teams ultimately recovered the missing boy’s body from a drain in Dwarka Sector 13 on March 28.

Investigation says that Ayush was user of various dating apps and met strangers regularly. Based on these facts, technical surveillance and CCTV footage was collected from various locations. Finally, the accused was identified and arrested.

Police report confirms that the kidnapper was a 25-year-old man. Identified as Ishtiaq Ali, a resident of Uttam Nagar, confessed the murder following an argument with the deceased. He further stated that he had made ransom calls to divert the attention of the parents and police so that he gets some time to dispose off the dead body.

As per the information by the murderer, police recovered the phone of the dead DU student and the vehicle that was used to dispose off the body.

Further, investigation is in progress and more information is yet to come.
