Canadian woman alleges rape by man she met in pub
New Delhi : A 20-year-old Canadian woman has been allegedly raped by a man she met at a pub in Delhi's Hauz Khas on Wednesday.
After the alleged rape, the woman visited AIIMS on the advice of her Indian friend and then reported the matter to the police.
Romil Baaniya, a deputy commissioner of police (south), confirmed that a rape case has been registered and 25-year-old alleged accused has been arrested.
The woman is in India with her two friends and knew an Indian family.
On Tuesday night, the woman and her companions accompanied the family friend to a pub in Hauz Khas where more common friends joined in. The suspect was among the gathering.
“The man befriended the woman at the pub. Later, he invited her to his place,” said the DCP.
According to the victim woman, the accused took her to a guest house where he works as a manager and raped her. "The woman somehow managed to escape and took a cab and called her friend who advised her to reach AIIMS and call the police,” said the investigator.
She also called the police at 2:30 am and reported the matter.
The case comes a day after a Thomson Reuters report said India is the world’s most dangerous country for women due to the high risk of sexual violence.
