Center Should Consider Early Formulation of National Silt Management Policy, DPR Pending for 18 Years: Sanjay Jha

New Delhi : Speaking at the National Workshop on DAM Safety Act-2021 for Dam Safety Governance in India' organized by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India in New Delhi on Thursday, Minister for Water Resources and Information and Public Relations of Bihar, Shri Sanjay Kumar Jha, highlighted the center about the achievements and needs of Bihar in the direction of water management.

Addressing the conference of Union Minister of Jal Shakti and the ministers of states, Mr. Sanjay Kumar Jha said, we are happy to inform that the Government of Bihar was formed in the year 2005 under the leadership of Hon'ble Chief Minister Mr. Nitish Kumar and in the year 2006 itself 'Dam Safety'. Act 2006' was enacted. Along with this, in the light of its provisions, 'State Dam Safety Committee' and 'Dam Safety Cell' were also constituted. We have 27 major dams and 5 major barrages in Bihar at present. All these dams are regularly inspected by the members of 'Dam Safety Cell'. The report related to the inspection is given to the concerned Regional Chief Engineer, Departmental Headquarters and Central Water Commission.

Shri Sanjay Kumar Jha said that Bihar is one of the few states to constitute 'State Dam Safety Committee' and 'State Dam Safety Organization' following the provisions of 'Dam Safety Act, 2021' of the Centre. He urged that the states would be greatly benefited if the Central Government initiates training module based on modern technology for the engineers engaged in the safety of dams.
