Central government employees to get Diwali bonus, over 30 lakh to benefit

Mumbai : Days before festivities in India are set to begin, the Centre has announced bonus pertaining to year 2019-2020 which will benefit 30 lakh non-gazetted employees.

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar on Wednesday announced that both productivity-linked bonus and non-productivity-linked bonus have been approved by the government; the total amount of the bonus will be around Rs 3,737 crore.

The announcement brings a large smile on the faces of government employees, who had started to believe that there will be no bonuses this year due to ongoing coronavirus situation in the country. Every year bonuses are announced well before Dussehra. 

The bonus will be disbursed at one instalment and before Vijaya Dashami, the Union minister said.

Among the beneficiaries are 17 lakh non-gazetted employees from commercial establishments like railways, post office, EPFO, ESIC who will get their productivity-linked bonus and other 13 lakh government employees who will get their non-productivity-linked bonus.
