Chandigarh gangrape victim should have avoided rickshaw with three men: Kirron Kher

Chandigarh : Member of Parliament Kirron Kher on Thursday gave a shocking remark over the gangrape of Chandigarh victim, suggesting autorickshaw with men should have been avoided.

Kirron Kher said, "Bachi ki samajhdaari ko bhi main thoda sa kehna chahti hun… saari bachiyon ko.. ki already jab koi teen aadmi baithe hue hain uske andar… to aapko usme bethna nahi chaeye tha ( The young girl should have been a bit careful. I would like to suggest all girls to sit in an autorikshaw when there already three men sitting inside) ….I am saying this to protect the girls."

The 22-year-old girl was brutally raped by three men in a moving auto rickshaw she had boarded to reach her paying guest accommodation in Mohali. The victim was returning back after attending a stenography class in Sector 37, when the three men first raped her and then dropped her in Sector 53.

Mrs Kirron Kher also shared her experience of travelling in public transport. “Hum log bhi kabhi taxi lete the Mumbai mein… to kisi na kisi ko bhi..jo hamare sath hota tha… usse taxi ka number likha dete the( We also commute by taxis in Mumbai and always share details of the cab with our close family or friend).. because we want our safety as girls.. I remember as a girl… so mujhe lagta hai hum sab ko aaj kal ke zamane mein in cheezon ke liye sakhat hona padega (I feel that in these times, we also have to be more careful about these things),” she said.

In India, the majority of people use public transport not by choice but by need; And a remark like this has left all of us in shock.
