Charge sheet against 3 IRS officers for suggesting income tax hike

New Delhi : A charge sheet has been against the three IRS officers after they suggested hike in income tax to boost the revenue during economic slowdown.

The officers — Prashant Bhushan, Prakash Dubey and Sanjay Bahadur — were pulled up for their alleged role in the formulation of and making public a report that advocated measures like a super rich tax, Covid-19 cess and reintroduction of wealth tax and inheritance tax.

Bhushan is the principal commissioner of income tax, Delhi, Dubey is the director of department of personnel and training, and Bahadur is the principal director of investigations in the north east region for Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).

A group of 50 IRS officers were asked to submit their report on suggestions to boost the economy that has been affected badly due to coronavirus.


Bhushan and Dubey are senior office bearers of the IRS Association. While Bhushan is the general secretary, Dubey is a joint secretary.

The officers have been asked to submit their reply within 15 days.
