New Delhi : Congress MLAs started selling pakodas on streets to protest Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remark on the same; BJP leader and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar bought pakodas from them saying it is a good alternative for these 'unemployed elders'.

Khattar said, "If anyone is getting employment by selling pakodas, it`s a good thing. They had become unemployed, but now they have got the pakoda-selling job, a good thing."

The Congress MLAs were protesting Prime Minister's remark in which he had mentioned that anyone selling pakodas can be considered employed.

Holding the ‘pakoras’ in a basket, the Congress legislators tried to march towards the Assembly but they were stopped by the police. As the Congress leaders were busy selling pakodas, Haryana CM stopped by and bought some pakodas from them and said it was a good thing the unemployed elders, in the state, have got a pakoda-selling job.

Among the protesting Congress leaders, senior politicians like Karan Singh Dalal, Kuldeep Sharma, Geeta Bhukkal and Shakuntala Khatak were spotted at the site.

Responding to the whole act, Haryana’s Agriculture Minister O P Dhankar accused the Congress party of insulting the poor and aspirational Indians. “First they made joke of tea seller, now they are doing the same thing with the poor people selling ‘pakodas’ for a living. They have an elitist mentality and cannot tolerate ‘chaiwalas’ and ‘pakodawalas’,” Dhankar said.
