New Delhi : India is failing to contain the coronavirus spread as the nation has struck another single-day peak on Friday after 7,466 new cases were registered in last 24 hours. With this the total tally of coronavirus cases in India has reached to 1,65,779.

The total number of active coronavirus cases in India stands at 89,987 while 71,105 patients have recovered from it, said Union Health Ministry on Friday.

"As per figures 42.89 per cent patients have recovered from the coronavirus," said the department.

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases also includes foreigners.

With new jump, India has taken over Turkey and is now on the ninth spot on the tally with most coronavirus cases.

According to the date updated by the health Ministry, the highest number of confirmed cases is from Maharashtra at 59,546, followed by Tamil Nadu at 19,372, Delhi at 16,281, Gujarat at 15,562, Rajasthan at 8,067, Madhya Pradesh at 7,453 and Uttar Pradesh at 7,170.
