Coronavirus total tally of cases crosses 2000-mark in Mumbai
New Delhi : The total number of coronavirus cases in Mumbai crossed 2000-mark on Thursday with 107 new patients testing positive, said government official.
Out of these 1000 cases have been reported in just one week. The coronavirus tally in the country's financial and entertainment capital had crossed 1,000 on April 11.
The total number of people dead because of coronavirus is 116, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said in a statement.
"Two of those died had co-morbidities (existing health issues) and one had both co-morbidities and age-related factors," said a BMC officer. One of those who died was from Dharavi.
Meanwhile, 21 patients have recovered from the virus and took the total tally to 202.
With Mumbai making up around 15 per cent of the country's total coronavirus cases, officials have said that a sharply higher rate of testing has contributed to the surge in numbers.
The city has conducted 2,374 tests per million, versus 448 per million in capital New Delhi, according to a Mumbai government report reviewed by news agency Reuters.
