Decision on government formation in Maharashtra today: Congress

New Delhi : Congress high commands met their party chief Sonia Gandhi at her residence in New Delhi to discuss the plus and minus of forming the government in Maharashtra in alliance with Shiv Sena and NCP.

"Most probably by tomorrow (Friday) we will decide upon forming a government in Maharashtra," said Congress leader KC Venugopal after the meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC).

According to know information, Sonia Gandhi has been convinced to go ahead with the alliance despite her reservations on ideological differences with the Shiv Sena. She has apparently been told that the bigger political enemy at this moment is BJP and not Shiv Sena. Final decision will be taken in Mumbai on this.

Sources have been telling that all three parties are facing difficulties in accepting the power-sharing of CM post.

The Congress-NCP talks took place hours after a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and NCP chief Sharad Pawar, officially on the farm crisis in Maharashtra, which set the cat among the pigeons.

The meeting was a clear message to Congress that they must grab the opportunity now or else they will not be able to have power in Maharashtra.

NCP is just two seats behind Shiv Sena and if they support the BJP then the political mathematics will stumble upon results in BJP's favour.

Shiv Sena and BJP parted their ways after the latter refused 50:50 power-sharing demand by the former.
