Delhi Court orders FIR against Maria Sharapova

New Delhi : A FIR has been ordered against tennis player Maria Sharapova and a builder by Delhi Court

The order comes after a buyer of luxury housing project moved to court and claimed that the project was advertised on her name and was scheduled to finish by 2016, but it never took off.

The court has attached Maria Sharapova's name to the FIR, along with the name of the builder.

44-year-old Bhawana Agarwal filed a complaint in Delhi Court claiming that the developers attract buyers through advertising. The project she invested in had Maria Sharapova endorsing it with several promises like tennis academy, a clothing line and much more.

The court, according to Times Of India, said, "If the averments of the complainant are to be believed, it shows that nothing has happened on the said project and alleged persons have no licence or sanction for construction or development at the project, for which the complainant paid Rs 53.03 lakh."

"If the alleged persons have no licence or sanction to raise the residential flats in the name of 'Ace by Sharapova', Sector 73, Gurgaon, and accepted Rs 53 lakh to book a flat of unit area of 2,500 sqft, then they have undoubtedly committed criminal offence," the court said and also directed the SHO concerned to register an FIR under relevant sections and to investigate "all angles."
