Delhi Elections: Congress announces first list of 54 candidates, Alka Lamba to contest from Chandni Chowk

New Delhi : After a brief meeting of senior Congress leaders at a residence of Sonia Gandhi in the national capital, the party announced its first list of 54 candidates for the upcoming Delhi Elections 2020. Among the prominent names announced in the list, Alka Lamba has been fielded from Chandni Chowk and former Union minister Krishna Tirath has been named for Patel Nagar.

The list also has the names of former Delhi minister Ashok Walia and Kirti Azad’s wife. They have been fielded from Krishna Nagar and Sangam Vihar respectively. The party has also named Adarsh Shastri, the grandson of Lal Bahadur Shastri, who joined the party on Saturday, from Dwarka. Adarsh was earlier associated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

The Congress, however, did not announce the names of its candidates for 16 seats including New Delhi, a constituency of AAP leader and CM Arvind Kejriwal.

The Congress' list of candidates came one day after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced its first list of candidates on Friday.

Delhi will go for votes on February 8 and the counting of votes will be done on February 11. Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora had said that over 13, 000 polling stations will be set up in the capital city for the upcoming Assembly polls.
