Delhi to soon face shortage of coffee, biscuits and diapers if lockdown extends

New Delhi : Amid good amount of hints from the Centre and Delhi government that the current lockdown is more likely to get extended beyond May 3, a panel reviewing the situation in the national capital has calculated the shortage of coffee, biscuits and diapers in coming days.

According to a report by PTI, the panel claimed that items of particular brands such as shampoos, moisturizers, biscuits, sanitizers and cigarettes which are dependent on the imports will face a shortage of supply.

With the amount of branded products shrinking on the shelves, there will be more small businesses and homemade products which will be seen in the city markets.

“The products of some of the prominent Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) are not available at some of the stores, but the goods of alternative brand/homemade brand are generally available,” it said.

Earlier this month, Chief Secretary Vijay Dev had constituted an empowered group on facilitating supply chain and logistics management for the availability of necessary items, including food and medicines in Delhi in the wake of the coronavirus-induced lockdown.

“The distributors may not be able to make supplies of all medicines if the production remains affected at the source level for a long time,” it said.

The factories and industries are either shut or operating with 50 per cent of staff while the demand for the items has remained the same or has increased with people stocking up items.
