Delhi violence: Gautam Gambhir demands strict action against Kapil Mishra

New Delhi : BJP MP from East Delhi demanded strict action against his party colleague Kapil Mishra for allegedly making provocative statements over the anti-CAA protest and violence at Jaffrabad Metro Station.

“No matter who the person is, whether he is Kapil Mishra or anyone else, belonging to any party, if he has given any provoking speech then strict action should be taken against him,” Gautam Gambhir was quoted as saying by ANI.

Nine people have been killed and over 20 have been injured in the violence.

The statement from the BJP MP came after Kapil Mishra on Sunday led a gathering in support of the CAA at Maujpur Chowk in the Jafarabad area, after which violence erupted between pro and anti-CAA sides. While addressing the gathering, Mishra also issued an ultimatum to the Delhi Police to clear the roads of the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protesters.

Later in a tweet, Kapil Mishra issued a three-day ultimatum to Delhi Police to get the roads cleared. "Don't try to reason with us after this, because we won’t pay heed," he said on Twitter.

Attaching a video, he had also written “We will maintain peace until Donald Trump is in India. After that, we refuse to listen to even the police if the roads are not cleared. We will be forced to hit the streets.”

On Monday, after facing criticism over his remarks, Kapil Mishra urged people of Delhi to maintain peace and exercise restraint.

"I appeal to everyone to stop the violence, which will not lead to any solution. Whether it is the people who are supporting CAA or those who are against it, I appeal to everyone to maintain peace. Delhi’s brotherhood should remain intact," Mishra said.
