New Delhi : The design of newly released Rs 500 and Rs 1000 Indian currency notes were finalised way back in May 2016, said RBI while responding to a RTI. However, it refused to disclose the name of the governor who approved the design citing section 8(1)(a) of the transparency law.

An activist Jeetendra Ghadge had filed a RTI seeking the exact date of approval of design of new currency notes.

“The new design of the bank notes was approved by the central board of Reserve Bank of India in its meeting held on 19 May 2016,” the central public information officer of RBI stated in the response.

Well, Raghuram Rajan was the governor of RBI during that time. So it is an easy guess on who must had taken the call.
