Dr Charanjit Singh seeks independent review of alleged rights violations in India

New Delhi : Human rights activist Dr Charanjit Singh has called on Indian constitutional authorities, United Nations bodies, human rights organisations and international media to independently examine complaints concerning peaceful protests, alleged detentions, police action, public transport restrictions and electoral irregularities in Delhi.

Singh said he sent a written appeal by email on 10 October 2026 to relevant authorities and organisations, seeking an impartial examination of the allegations and preservation of relevant evidence.

The appeal raises concerns about police powers, access to peaceful demonstrations, the treatment of detained individuals, journalists’ freedom to work and the legal basis for restrictions on public transport. Singh has urged the Ministry of Home Affairs, Delhi Police, the Election Commission and other competent authorities to provide evidence-based responses.

Referring to Articles 14, 19, 21 and 22 of the Constitution of India, Singh emphasised that all allegations must undergo independent scrutiny and due process. He called for appropriate legal action wherever violations are established and urged that electoral complaints be examined through lawful procedures.

Singh stated that his peaceful and non-violent human rights campaign would continue until these concerns are addressed. He also invited independent journalists and international media organisations to verify official records, seek responses from the authorities and report their findings in the public interest.
