New Delhi : A senior couple was found dead with their throats slit at their residence in Gokalpuri, northeast Delhi on Monday. The police have arrested their daughter-in-law, Monika, and her boyfriend for the murders. The victims, Radhey Shyam Verma (72) and his wife Veena (68), were found in a ransacked house, with cash and valuables worth around Rs 5 lakh missing. Investigations revealed that Monika, who was involved in an extramarital affair, had conspired with her boyfriend to kill her in-laws and flee with their belongings.

According to a senior police officer, preliminary investigation has revealed that the woman's boyfriend and his associate had arrived at the house on Sunday around 7 pm and were hiding on the terrace. Efforts are underway to trace the whereabouts of the absconding suspects.

The elderly couple, Radhey Shyam and Veena, lived on the ground floor of the house, while their son Ravi Rattan, along with his wife and 6-year-old son, lived on the first floor. Radhey Shyam had retired as the vice principal of a Delhi government school in Karol Bagh, and the family had been residing in the house for the past 38 years, as confirmed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).

Police have reported that some jewelry and Rs 4.5 lakh in cash are missing from the house.

Ravi Rattan had last seen his parents at 10:30 pm on Sunday. Upon hearing the news of her uncle and aunt's murder, Sati Gautam, along with her husband, rushed to Gokalpuri from Shankar Vihar.

As part of the investigation, the police have scanned through CCTV cameras installed in and around the area to gather corroborating evidence.
