Chandigarh : Following a three-day strike by electricity department workers, Chandigarh was left in the dark for about 36 hours. The electricity has been fully restored in many parts of the UT. Water supply, electronic traffic light system was majorly hit by the strike.

Hospitals were forced to reschedule several surgeries due to non-availability of electricity.

The electricity workers have been protesting against the move to privatization of the department. The officials have conducted several meetings with the protesting officers asking them to end the protest.

Meanwhile, the protesters have accused that privatization will change their work routines and also increase power tariffs, which is not good for the residents of the Union Territory.

Electricity workers from Haryana and Punjab have been brought temporarily to ensure smooth electricity distribution.

There is no report on demands being accepted or rejected as the power has been restored in Chandigarh.
