New Delhi : The protesting farmers on Thursday called off their 15-month long protest after the Centre sent them an official letter accepting most of their demands.

The farmers have been sitting on Delhi border since November against the three controversial farm laws passed by the government, which have now been repealed.

The farmers will vacate the borders and return home from December 11. It has been learned that they will carry out a victory march to their homes.

Announcing the end of agitation, leaders of Samayukta Kisan Morcha said they will hold a review meeting on January 15 to see the progress on the promises made by the Centre. "We have decided to suspend our agitation. We will hold a review meeting on Jan 15. If govt doesn't fulfill its promises, we could resume our agitation," farmer leader Gurnam Singh Charuni said.

The decision to end the protest was taken today after the government promised to form a committee on MSP and withdraw all cases against the farmers immediately.

The Centre's letter, on the letterhead of the agriculture secretary, also said that the governments of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana have given in-principle consent to giving compensation to the kin of farmers who lost their lives.

The farmer leaders have also issued an apology to the people for the inconvenience caused due to their agitation in last 15 months.
