Lucknow : The Special Investigation Team has said that the killing of farmers in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri district was a 'planned conspiracy' and not a case death by negligence.

The charges of rash driving against the son of Union Minister Ajay Mishra's jailed son Ashish Mishra should be modified, cops investigating the matter told the judge.

Ashish Mishra and others are already facing an attempt to murder and conspiracy charges.

As the elections are coming in Uttar Pradesh, the new development can be a big trouble for BJP's Ajay Mishra, the Union Minister of State for Home, who has remained in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government despite calls for his sacking.

The minister met his son in the jail on Tuesday.

On October 3, eight farmers were killed during a protest after a car ramped over them during a protest. After four farmers and a journalist were run over, allegedly by an SUV driven by Ashish Mishra, violence broke out in which three more, including two BJP workers were killed.

Video footage from the incident showed an SUV running over the farmers at a full speed.
