New Delhi : The second wave of coronavirus in India is getting deadlier with more than 300 people losing their lives in one day; this is the highest in the ongoing 2021.

A total of 312 fatalities have been reported on Saturday in the nation. Meanwhile, the number of fresh cases has gone up to over 62,500, highest in last 163 days.

With daily rising cases, total number of active coronavirus cases is going to pass 5-lakh mark on Sunday. The count has risen by a record 90,000 in three days and is set to post the fastest one-lakh rise (four days) if it tops 5 lakh on Sunday.

As many as 15 states posted their highest daily counts since January or earlier, as Chhattisgarh became the third state after Maharashtra and Punjab to log over 3,000 cases in a day in March.

The average of daily new cases has doubled in just 10 days, going from 27,004 on March 17 to 53,198 on March 27.
