Former Haryana CM Om Prakash Chautala passes away in Gurugram
New Delhi : Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) chief and former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala passed away on Friday in Gurugram. He was 89 years old. According to the party, he passed away after he suffered cardiac arrest.
He had made his last public appearance on October 5 during the assembly elections in the state. He was seen at a polling booth in Sirsa's Chautala village.
Om Prakash Chautala, son of former Deputy Prime Minister of India Chaudhary Devi Lal, served as the seventh chief minister of Haryana.
Talking about him, Om Prakash Chautala was born in a small village near Haryana's Sirsa. His father, Chaudhary Devi Lal, played a major role in the creation of Haryana in 1966, served as the state's chief minister, and later as India's deputy prime minister.
Interestingly, Chautala had dropped out of his school to follow his father’s path in politics. In 1970, he was elected to Haryana’s legislative assembly as a member of the Janata Dal (People’s Party).
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was among the first ones to react to this news and mentioned that his sudden demise has personally affected him.
