Free public transport for women in Delhi: BJP's reaction inside

New Delhi : Ahead of Delhi Assembly Elections in 2020, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced that public transport including Metro, Delhi Transport Corporation buses and cluster buses will be free for women commuters. Bharatiya Janata Party reacted sharply to it claiming that AAP chief is playing a bluff on people to get votes.

“He promised to deploy Marshals and install panic buttons for the safety of women in buses, it seems he himself is now panicking. He can’t understand what new tactic to use to mislead people of Delhi,” said BJP Delhi chief Manoj Tiwari at a press conference.

However, Manoj Tiwari said that the BJP is not opposing the idea of providing the free travel for women; but he is questioning how they will deliver in six months when they could not deliver in 52 months of power.

Tiwari said, “We are not opposing the idea but something that couldn’t even be started in 52 months, how can it be done in 5-6 months? Arvind Kejriwal is only trying to deceive people.”

Check out the key takeaways from Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's announcement:

# According to the proposal, women travellers in Delhi will be able to access Delhi Metro, Delhi Transport Corporation buses and cluster buses for free.

# Delhi CM said that women who can afford the tickets can buy the tickets. "It is not mandatory to avail free services."

# Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that the move is aimed at making the public transport in Delhi safer for women.

# The proposed plan will take around six months to be fully implemented.

# The loss in revenue due to the scheme will be borne by the Delhi government.

# The AAP will seek public suggestions before making the proposal official.
