Fresh violence in Manipur casts shadow over Rahul Gandhi's nyay yatra
New Delhi : In Moreh, Manipur's border town, recent violence has overshadowed the Congress party's nationwide march, the 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.'
The state government's delay in granting permission for the event adds to the tension, with the situation in Moreh being critical due to a recent exchange of gunfire between Manipur police and militants along the Indo-Myanmar border.
Acknowledging the critical state, Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh mentioned ongoing "mass combing operations" involving Assam Rifles, BSF, and state police to apprehend those responsible for attacks on security forces.
Scheduled to kick off on January 14 from Hatta Kangjeibung in Imphal East district, the 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' is led by Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge. However, in a recent press conference in Guwahati, Congress general secretary KC Venugopal highlighted that the party is still awaiting permission from the Manipur government, which has cited "approval" pending from the Centre.
The 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' is an ambitious 66-day journey covering 6,713 km by buses and on foot, spanning 110 districts, 100 Lok Sabha seats, and 337 assembly segments, concluding in Mumbai on March 20.
