Groom in UP 'accidentally' killed during 'celebratory gunshot' by a friend

Lakhimpur Kheri : A close friend unknowingly shot dead the groom at a wedding in a village in Lakhimpur Kheri district. The accused man has been booked under murder charges while the cops are looking for him and also examining the video footage to understand if this was a mistake or deliberate shooting.

According to a report by the Times of India, which claims to have the video footage, states that the accused Ram Chandra can be seen fiddling with a pistol close to the groom, Sunil Verma. The gun goes off, hitting Verma, just 24, in the chest.

Caught by both sudden pain and surprise, Verma first clutches his chest, unaware that he has been shot. He then look around for a split second as if to figure out what actually happened to him. He then collapses as music in the background plays on and guests, equally unaware of what happened, smile on.

Accused Ram Chandra is missing since the incident as cops have started searching him.

Family members claim that gunshot was not heard due to loud music in the background.

An FIR under section 302 (murder) was registered on the complaint of Radheshyam Verma, the dead groom's father. Additional superintendent of police Ghanshyam Chaurasia told TOI, “We have booked Ram Chandra under section 302 (murder) of IPC. He has been absconding since the incident and will be arrested soon. We received a complaint that Sunil Verma died in celebratory firing. We are investigating other angles as well.”
