New Delhi : A day after resigning as the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), Girish Chandra Murmu has been appointed as the new CAG, said a report.

Murmu has taken over as the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) after Rajiv Mehrishi completed his term.

The oath taking ceremony has been scheduled for Saturday at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Murmu was appointed as the first Lt Governor of J&K when the union territory was carved out of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier on Thursday, President Ram Nath Kovind accepted Murmu's resignation and announced Manoj Sinha as his successor in Jammu and Kashmir.

The CAG maintains oversight of the central government’s finances and points out flaws in procedures and actions that have financial implications.
