Gorakhpur riots: Allahabad HC dismisses petition against UP CM Adityanath

Allahabad : Allahabad High Court on Thursday dismissed a petition seeking CBI probe against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for his alleged investigation into the 2007 riots in Gorakhpur.

A division bench headed by Justices Krishna Murari and AC Sharma refused to entertain the plea and said they see no reason to reinvestigate the matter.

The petition, refused by Allahabad High Court, was filed by Rashid Khan seeking criminal charges against Yogi Adityanath. It was filed way back in 2008.

Gorakhpur riots had resulted in the death of one person and it was claimed that the riots erupted over Yogi Adityanath's hate speech. The then Gorakhpur MP was arrested and he remained in custody for 11 days.

The petition had demanded a probe against Yogi under sections 302, 307, 153A, 395 and 295 of the IPC, which pertain to murder and rioting.
