Haryana residents protest cremation of COVID-19 suspect, throw stones on cop

New Delhi : Residents of a village in Ambala (Haryana) on Monday threw stones at the cops and doctors as they protested the cremation of a coronavirus suspect. The woman in her early 60s died at the city hospital due to an illness.

Violating the lockdown guidelines, the residents moved out from their houses and started throwing stones on the team of police officials and doctors at the cremation ground. The police had to open fire in air to clear the place.

The cremation was carried out after the mob was moved away from the area.

The coronavirus test result of the woman is still awaited so it is not confirmed if she was infected with COVID-19 or not.

"The woman had asthma and on Monday afternoon she started facing difficulty in maintaining oxygen saturation. She died while undergoing treatment. We collected her samples for COVID-19 testing and after following the due procedure and SOPs we released her body for the cremation at a designated place to the district administration," civil surgeon Dr Kuldeep Singh said.

He mentioned that the cremation of the woman was done with all safety measures.
