I am a common man, don't understand protocols: PM Narendra Modi on 'hugplomacy'
New Delhi : Days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scorned by Congress for giving hugs to international leaders, he replied back by saying that he is a common man and do not understand laid protocols.
PM Modi said I would have done shaking hands and other formalities only if I had received a training for it.
"Had I been trained like others...I too would have followed those protocols of looking right and left, had shaken hands. But I am an ordinary person...I only try to ensure that no harm ever happens to my country (due to this)," the PM told Zee News.
On the contrary to Congress' allegations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed that his hugs have turned out to be his key strengths as the other world leaders have also liked his gestures.
PM Modi also said that his basic nature has been "to convert adversity into opportunity".
A few days ago, the Congress had posted a tweet mocking Modi for hugging world leaders, evoking a sharp reaction from the BJP that slammed it as "immature" and demanded an apology.
