Kabul : The Indian Air Force has sent a special flight to bring back stranded Indians and embassy staff from Taliban occupied Kabul. According to media reports, the Indian authorities have said that they will not put the lives of their citizen and staff under any risk at any cost.

A fleet of the C-17 Globemaster military transport aircraft of the IAF was kept on standby to undertake evacuation missions. One of the aircraft was sent to the war torn Afghanistan on Sunday and another took off on Monday from Ghaziabad's Hindon air force station.

Quoting government officials, Hindustan Times reported that at least 200 Indian officials, including diplomats and security, are waiting to be back to India. “Taking the staff from the embassy compound to the airport is also a challenge," HT quoted an official on condition of anonymity.

Earlier in the day, Air India cancelled all its Delhi-Kabul-Delhi flights which were scheduled to operate after Afghanistan airspace was called uncontrolled by the authorities at Kabul airport. These were only the commercial flights between India and Afghanistan.

Five people were killed in chaos at Kabul airport on Monday, witnesses said, as US troops guarded the evacuation of embassy staff a day after the Taliban seized the Afghan capital and declared the war was over and peace prevailed.
