IMD alerts cyclone 'Ockhi', heavy rains, winds to hit Chennai and Lakshadweep
Chennai : IMD on Thursday warned of intensified cyclone 'Ockhi' approaching Lakshadweep. The IMD bulletin said that Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep will experience heavy rains and fast winds in the next 24 hours.
The depression over Comorin area, the report said, has moved 'west-northwestwards' and further intensified into a deep depression.
The residents have been advised to stay inside their houses. There are predictions of power and communication failures due to breaking of tree branches and uprooting of trees.
Tamil Nadu State Disaster Management Agency tweeted about this saying a cyclonic storm could be formed in the next 12 hours.

Holiday has been declared in the school and colleges for the safety of students.
Mahesh Palawat, Vice President Meteorology and Climate Change at Sky Met Weather, tweeted about the potential of the deep depression to turn into cyclone Ockhi by today.
