In Uttarakhand, Ganga breaches danger mark, alert issued in Haridwar

Haridwar : Amid heavy rains and landslides in Uttarakhand, river Ganga has crossed the danger mark in Devprayag, triggering warning in Haridwar. Another reason behind rise in level is the release of massive amount of water from the dam on Alaknanda River.

According to reports, river Ganga has crossed the warning level of 293 metres and reached 293.15 metres in Haridwar on Sunday evening.

The low-lying areas in Haridwar have been asked to stay alert and cautious.

The State Disaster Operation Centre has instructed Haridwar District Magistrate Dheeraj Singh to promptly address the repair of Gate No. 10 at the Bhimgoda barrage in order to prevent significant damages caused by the rapid flow of water through the damaged gate.

After the Ganga river reached a height of 463.20 meters, it led to the inundation of Sangam Ghat, Ramkund, Dhaneshwar Ghat, and Fuladi Ghat. Furthermore, the water level in the Ganga experienced a significant surge when approximately 2,000-3,000 cusecs of water were discharged from the dam of the GVK hydroelectric project, constructed on the Alaknanda river.

A flood-like situation is prevailing in 71 villages of Laksar, Khanpur, Roorkee, Bhagwanpur and Haridwar tehsils due to incessant rains in the past few days.
