New Delhi : In retaliation to killing of three soldiers, Indian Army on Wednesday bombarded Pakistani positions along Line of Control, with Pakistani authorities claiming 14 deaths in the shelling.

The offensive came hours after Indian Army pledged to exact a “heavy” retribution for the killing of the three soldiers.

If locals are to be believed then this was one of the heaviest exchanges of gunfire since ceasefire came into effect along the Line of Control in late 2003.

The external affairs ministry summoned Pakistani deputy high commissioner Syed Haider Shah and protested against continued ceasefire violations and “barbaric mutilation” of the Indian soldier’s body, spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted.

According to Pakistani officials, 11 civilians have lost their lives and 3 soldiers have been killed in the offensive attack from Indian posts.

"3 soldiers killed in action on (LoC) in (Machil). Body of one soldier mutilated, retribution will be heavy for this cowardly act," an Indian Army handle had tweeted.
