India sets 2.5 crore coronavirus vaccine jabs in a day record on PM Modi's birthday

New Delhi : India on Friday created a record with 2.5 crore coronavirus vaccination in a day as the government raced to deliver the landmark feat on PM Narendra Modi's birthday.

At 11:58 pm, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted to confirm the "historic" figure.



Earlier, the Prime Minister took to Twitter to declare that "every Indian would be proud of today's record vaccination numbers" and thank healthcare and frontline workers who had worked hard to make the vaccination drive a success.



Till Friday, China had the record to their name with 2.47 crore vaccine jabs in a day.

In the evening, as the country crossed the two crore-mark, the World Health Organization's South-East Asia office tweeted its congratulations.

"Congratulations India for yet another milestone!" the global health body's regional arm said, tagging  Mr Mandaviya and news agency ANI in its tweet.
