Bengaluru : Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday launched Indira Canteens in Bengaluru. Here is all you should know about it.
What is Indira Canteen?
Indira Canteens are the food serving areas where meals are available at a very low price to ensure even the weakest and poor section do not sleep hungry.
Why is it called Indira Canteen?
While launching the first canteen at Jayanagar ward in Bengaluru, Rahul Gandhi said that the canteen has been named after his grandmother and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Cost per plate in Canteen?
In the initial phase of the launch, 101 canteens will daily serve vegetarian breakfast at Rs 5 per plate and lunch and dinner at Rs 10 each in 101 civic wards.
Future of Indira Canteen
Currently, only 101 canteens will come to function but at the later stage, more canteens will be opened in the remaining 97 wards from October 2 to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
