Kamala Mills Blaze: 'Flying embers from hookah at Mojo Bistro sparked fire'

Mumbai : Flying embers from the hookah at Mojo Bistro has been quoted as the reason behind disastrous fire at a rooftop restaurant in Kamala Mills that killed 14 people on December 29.

Fire Department has submitted its investigation report in which it mentioned that the flying embers came in contact with combustible curtain fabric at the restaurant and sparked fire.

The fire then extended to illegally erected thatched roof of the 1 Above restaurant.

The latest findings have negated the earlier claims that fire began from 1 Above restaurant.

The report also revealed that both the ill-fated restaurants did not have necessary permission for hookah parlour and liquor bar. They were only permitted to serve food.

The investigation report submitted to civic chief Ajoy Mehta claimed that both the restaurants were found stocking huge amount of combustible materials such as burning charcoal, synthetic curtains and cushions, wooden props and the illegal temporary shed made of bamboo among others.
