New Delhi : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Kanpur GST Commissioner for taking bribe from industrialists to help them evade tax. Seven others were also arrested in the connection with the case.

The arrests were made after the agency conducted raids at several locations in New Delhi and Kanpur, confirmed CBI in a statement. In the raids, Rs 58 lakhs in cash and several incriminating documents, including diaries, pen drives and documents of properties worth several crore rupees were also recovered.

All the arrested accused will be presented before CBI Court in Lucknow and Delhi. As per reports Kanpur GST commissioner Sansar Chand  was running a bribery racket and used to collect money from the industrialists on the name of 'protection money'.

Apart from Chand, two GST superintendents - Ajay Srivastava and Rajeev Singh - were also arrested from their residences in upscale Sarvodaya Nagar and Kakadeo localities here.

The CBI has charged them under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) and sections 7, 11, 12 of Prevention of Corruption Act (taking gratification by corrupt and illegal means with active involvement of private persons.)
