Lightening strike kills 10 people in Jaipur as rains lash north India

Jaipur : At least 10 people have been killed in a lightening strike and many were feared injured at Amer Palace near Jaipur. The incident happened when people were clicking their selfie from a watch tower amid rain in the Rajasthan capital.

According to a media report, dozens of people were present at the watch tower when incident happened. Many of them jumped down to the nearby hill forests in panic. 29 people were later rescued by the police and civil defence personnel.

The search and rescue operation are currently underway.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the family of deceased in the incident.

Many places in Rajasthan received rainfall on Sunday. The India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall in the country's northern region on Monday morning.
