Lok Sabha passes bill that allows e-Rickshaw on national capital roads

New Delhi : Lok Sabha on Tuesday unanimously passed the bill to amend Motor Vehicles Act that will help e-rickshaws to ply on the roads of national capital.
Now, the bill will eye Rajya Sabha’s nod to help around 1 lakh e-rickshaw owners.

While transport minister made it clear that we should look for these 1 lakh lives relying on e-rickshaws with no compromise on safety of users.
He also mentioned that his ministry has advised all e-rickshaw manufacturers to build high quality vehicle.
Interestingly, these public vehicles are fully Indian made.

To keep an eye on quality standard 17 key points have been set which needs to be at least followed to drive e-rickshaw on Indian road.
High Court had removed e-rickshaws from roads in July last year after citing safety issues.
The new rules provide that e-rickshaws will be allowed to carry four passengers and 40 kg luggage while e-carts would transport goods up to 310kg.
