New Delhi : Former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had to face another physical attack during his padyatra in Delhi today. A man in South Delhi's Sheikh Sarai region threw water on him; he was detained immediately by the security personnel present at the spot.

The incident took place on Saturday evening when he, with Greater Kailash MLA and Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, was walking through the narrow lanes to greet people. The police personnel were taking control over the crowd by using a rope boundary on both sides of the leaders.

Releasing an official statement over the incident, Delhi Police said that the padyatra was organized without any official permission in the Malviya Nagar region. Though the police officials were deployed to control the crowd, one of the persons – identified as Ashok Jha – tried to throw water on Arvind Kejriwal. However, with proactive and alert officials the attempt to attack was foiled and the man was instantly detained.

The motive behind the attack is still under investigation.

According to a media report, it has been learned that the attackers tried to throw spirit on the former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal with an intention to burn him alive; they were successful in throwing the spirit but failed to light the match. Thankfully, no one has been injured in the alleged attack.

A video of the incident is also being circulated on the social media where the former CM can be seen talking a walk through the narrow lanes. As he moves forward, a man can be seen throwing liquid on him; the liquid also fell on the two security personnel nearby.

After the attack, Aam Aadmi Party is alleging that the attacker belongs to BJP and wanted to shut former CM’s voice over the law and order in Delhi.
