'Matter is closed': Home Ministry on SPG protection row
New Delhi : Congress has been protesting against Centre's move to downgrade SPG Security cover to Z-Plus for Gandhi Family and Manmohan Singh. Responding to it, the Home Ministry has reportedly said, "the matter is closed."
NDTV report claims that top Home Ministry sources have said that there is "no going back on the decision, the Congress can keep asking."
The protest from Congress leaders had disrupted the Lok Sabha on Tuesday and now a disruption has been reported in the Rajya Sabha.
Congress leader Anand Sharma said in the upper house that restoring SPG security cover to the Gandhi Family and former PM Manmohan Singh is in the national interest as they have a threat to their life, personal safety and security.
"Please rise above this and review and restore. That would be in the national interest as otherwise the intention would be questioned today, tomorrow and in the future," said Anand Sharma.
Notably, as Centre has removed the security cover from the Gandhi family, PM Narendra Modi is the only leader who has such tight security cover.
