Migrant woman delivers baby on road, walks another 150 kms before getting help

Nashik : On one end the government is trying to facilitate the easy movement of migrants via trains and buses and on the other end the reality remains that most of the migrant workers are walking kilometers to reach their home towns under miserable conditions.

In a latest story of hardship, a pregnant woman delivered her baby on road and had to walk another 150 kms before she could get some medical help and save the life of her baby.

She was traveling on foot from Nashik in Maharashtra to Satna in Madhya Pradesh due to the coronavirus lockdown.

“There had been news that they had started from Nashik and after delivery which happened on the roadside they continued walking for another 150 kilometres. Then information came that they had been helped by the Madhya Pradesh administration which gave them food and sent them to their place,” AK Ray, the Block Officer of Unchehara area in Satna told ANI.

“We conducted their health checkups and now they will be sent to home quarantine,” he added.

Just like them, thousands of the migrant workers have been left with no option than to walk till home after they had no money and food to survive during the hard times.

A similar incident happened on Sunday when a woman migrant was forced to give birth under a roadside tree in Uttar Pradesh’s Lalitpur district after having covered a distance of 500 kilometers on foot.
