Mumbai : Two children were electrocuted after a severe thunderstorm, accompanied by heavy rains and lightning lashed Mumbai on Monday night. The died children have been identified as Tushar Jha (12) and Rushabh Tiwari (11).

The BMC Disaster Control cell confirmed the deaths at their tenement in Poisar slums in Kandivali East.

The train, bus and flight services have also been affected by the downpour. All flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport were suspended due to low visibility yesterday.

Rail traffic was hit on the Central Railway’s harbour line near Chunabhatti due to a technical snag in the overhead pantograph, and an overhead wire tripping near Diva station.

Traffic jams and slow traffic were also reported from the several parts of the Mumbai.

An official of the India Meteorological Department said that this was the first pre-monsoon shower in the south Mumbai region.

Earlier on Saturday, Monsoon officially hit the coast of Kerala, a week later than expected, the weather department said.
