Punjab : Navjot Singh Sidhu has resigned from his post of Punjab Congress chief. This comes days after new Punjab CM was appointed in the state with his approval.

"The collapse of a man's character stems from the compromise corner. I can never compromise on Punjab's future and the agenda for the welfare of Punjab. Therefore, I hereby resign as the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. I will continue to serve the Congress," Navjot Sidhu wrote in a resignation letter to Sonia Gandhi, which he posted on social media.

The resignation comes as a huge blow to Gandhis who were warned about Navjot Singh Sidhu's appointment as the Punjab Congress Chief.

Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are yet to reach Delhi after their visit to Shimla.

Interestingly, the move also comes at a time when new Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has been making changes to the Punjab cabinet.

According to a media report, Navjot Singh Sidhu was not consulted before the names of the new ministers were finalized and he was apparently upset with the fact.

The double use of the word "compromise" in Mr Sidhu's resignation letter was seen as a clue to some unpleasant choices in the cabinet shuffle.

Punjab will soon go for polls and with the resignation comes as a huge blow for the party in the state.
