New Delhi : The Supreme Court on Friday stayed National Green Tribunal‘s (NGT) order mandating environment clearance for Delhi metro Noida line construction.

NGT had stayed construction stating that it can not go on without environment clearance as till now no environment clearance for dedicated freight corridor has been given.

It may be mentioned here that the National Green Tribunal had earlier dismissed a review petition seeking a stay on the construction of Metro line from Noida to Greater Noida till it gets mandatory environmental clearance under the provisions of the EIA notification and directions of the tribunal.

A bench headed by NGT Chairperson rejected the plea filed by an environment activist seeking modification of its May 31 order and noted that a separate petition may be filed in this regard.

Highlights:

# NGT had stayed construction saying it cannot go on without environment clearance.

# Supreme Court ruled that there is no environment clearance for dedicated freight corridor.

# Noida-Greater Noida metro project was asked to obtain environmental clearance from State Level Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA).

More details awaited.
