Nirbhaya's mother blasts Indira Jaising for an advice to pardon the culprits

New Delhi : Blasting senior advocate Indira Jaising, Nirbhaya's mother said that it is because of such people no rape victim gets justice in India. "Who is Indira Jaising to give me such a suggestion. Whole country wants the convicts to be executed. Just because of people like her, justice is not done with rape victims," she said.

"Can’t believe how Indira Jaising even dared to suggest such this. I met her many times over the years in the Supreme Court. Not once she asked for my wellbeing and today she is speaking for convicts. Such people earn livelihood by supporting rapists," she said.

On Friday, Indira had requested Nirbhaya's mother to pardon the four rape convicts on death row, exactly how Sonia Gandhi had pardoned Nalini, who was involved in the assassination of her husband and then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

"While I fully identify with the pain of Asha Devi I, urge her to follow the example of Sonia Gandhi who forgave Nalini and said she didn’t want the death penalty for her," she wrote on Twitter.

"We are with you but against death penalty," she added.

The senior advocate's advice came on a day when Delhi court issued a fresh death warrant for the four rape convicts; they were earlier scheduled to be hanged on January 22 but according to the new dates, they will be hanged on February 1.

The execution date had to be changed due to the mercy plea filed by one of the convicts, Mukesh Singh, to President Ram Nath Kovind. As per prison rules, a death row convict can only be hanged 14 days after the rejection of his mercy petition.

The mercy plea was rejected by the President on Friday.
